What Is EXIF Data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in image files by digital cameras, smartphones, and scanners. It records capture settings (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), camera and lens model, date/time, GPS coordinates, thumbnail previews, and more. EXIF data is present in most JPG files and some PNG/WEBP files from cameras.

What Can You Learn From EXIF?

EXIF data reveals the camera model, lens used, focal length, shutter speed, aperture (f-stop), ISO sensitivity, flash usage, white balance, and even GPS coordinates where the photo was taken. Photographers use EXIF to study shooting techniques. Investigators use it to verify image authenticity.

Is EXIF Data Private?

EXIF GPS data can reveal your exact location. Many social media platforms strip EXIF data when you upload photos. If you share original files, consider removing location data first. Our tool only reads EXIF — we never store or transmit your metadata.
